1. Matting near the ears, armpits, and tail
Mats form where fur rubs against itself — behind the ears, under the front legs, and around the tail base are the usual spots. Once a mat tightens against the skin, it traps moisture and heat, which is exactly the environment a hot spot needs to develop. 2. A noticeable odour that returns within days of a bath
A healthy coat shouldn’t smell strong again within 2–3 days of a bath. 4. Constant scratching or licking in the summer heat

5. It’s been more than 6–8 weeks since the last full groom
